The Most Refreshing Game Day Snack
There is quite literally nothing more refreshing on a hot Summer Day then Mexican Fruit. Not only is this dish perfect for hosting, or hitting the beach on a hot summer day, its the perfect bite of Juicy, Sweet, Spicy, Savory and Crisp all at the same time. This snack is so nostalgic for me but carries so much history and culture with it.
The mobile carts you see in the U.S., especially in Southern California can be spotted with the signature rainbow umbrella as a sign to provide fresh, affordable fruit to rapidly growing urban communities.
The specific tradition consists of serving freshly chopped tropical fruit topped with lime juice, salt, and chili powder like Tajin or Chamoy. Normally you will see a variety of fruits such as: Mango, Watermelon, Cucumber, Jicama, Pineapple, Papaya, Cantelope, or Coconut. Pick whichever fruit you like or whatever you can source at your local farmer’s market or grocery store if you are making this at home.
If you have never tried Tajin or Chamoy have NO FEAR! The spice level is mild, I prefer to eat mine with sliced jalapeño’s because I need more of a kick! You can purchase Tajin and Chamoy at most big chain grocery stores, or any Mexican Markets. I like to zhuzh mine up with lime zest, flaky sea salt, sliced jalepeños on the side, large dipping cups, for the perfect bite, and serve it on a large platter for aesthetic and everyone to enjoy.
